Dussehra or Vijayadashami is an important Hindu festival that signifies the victory of good over evil. This annual festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor by Hindus across the world on the tenth day of the Navratras, which falls on the tenth day of Ashwin or Kartik months as per the Hindu calendar.
Navrati foods are available in various hotels, restaurants throughout the 9 days of celebration, even it is very popular among youth. These days are considered purest and people avoid eating non-vegetarian food, onion, and garlic. In some parts of the country, the occasion celebrates Lord Ram's defeat of the demon Ravana, while for some communities it marks Goddess Durga's triumph over the devil Mahishasura. Dussehra is celebrated vigorously all across the country, with festivities involving lights, decorations, colorful dresses, and food.
Nine different avatars of Goddess Durga are worshipped during the Navratri. The 1st day is dedicated to Goddess Shailputri, 2nd to Brahmacharini, 3rd to Chandraghanta, 4th day to Kushmanda, 5th day to Skandamata, 6th day to Katyayani, 7th day to Kaalratri, 8th to Mahagauri, and 9th day to Siddhidatri.
